Jef Kaminskyef Kaminsky (pronounced "Come-In-Ski") was born in December of 1968. He grew up with his mother, father, grandmother, dogs and cats, and two older sisters in the amazing hamlet of Memphis, Tennessee. While practicing handwriting drills in elementary school Jef made the difficult decision to jettison the second "F" in Jeff. That fateful decision led many people to ask him, “Why only one F?”

Jef studied studio art and literature at Sarah Lawrence College and learned a lot of handy stuff about painting and drawing while studying in Italy. He  also went to Oxford. But it was only on a day-trip while traveling through England. After college, Jef moved to New York City where he lives with his wife and daughter.

Jef has worked as an elementary school teacher, an animator, a graphic designer, and a children's book writer and illustrator—but not all at the same time. Currently a children's television developer and producer, Jef wakes up before sunrise most mornings and draws pictures before riding across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Jef has been published by Simon & Schuster, Scholastic Press, Hyperion Books for Children, and Random House. Jef wrote and illustrated Poppy & Ella (Hyperion). Working well with others is one of Jef's trademarks. He collaborated with Sarah Weeks on Bite Me, I'm a Shape and Bite Me, I'm a Book (Random House) and with Martha Atwater on a line of animal-shaped sticker books called Stickamajigs (Hyperion).

Additionally, Jef's spot illustrations have been regularly featured in The Wall Street Journal. Most recently, a handful of Jef's illustrations can be seen on Jenny Brown's children's book review website, Twenty By Jenny: http://www.twentybyjenny.com.

Jef Kaminsky is represented by Elena Giovinazzo.
