Janet Reed Ahearn was born in New York City and grew up in the suburbs of the city. She's always loved working on all kinds of creative projects. After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University, Janet co-founded the Off-Broadway theatre Primary Stages Company. At PSC, she created the Late-Nite Sketchbook series and the New American Writers Group, which funds emerging writers to help them develop new works. In addition, she has written plays and comedy sketches and performed at New York's West Bank Cafe and the Comic Strip. Today, Janet works in publishing as an editor.

Since Don't Call me Pruneface!, her first picture book, was published by Hyperion, Janet has written a play, High School Confidential with Dan Ahearn.  The play was workshopped and performed by high school students at Primary Stages Company.  Currently, Janet is at work on an early reader chapter book and another play.
