cott Menchin lives in New York with his wife, Yvetta, and their daughter, Karina. At a very young age, Scott started using his father's shirt cardboard to paint and draw on. Studying at the Art Students League and then Pratt Institute, Scott went on to become a designer, working with clients such as The New York Philharmonic, Dow Jones, WBGO and The New York Times. As a magazine art director, he worked for How magazine and Seven Days.

After many years as an art director and wanting to have as much fun as the illustrators he was giving assignments to, Scott changed his career to illustration—what he had always loved first. As an illustrator, some of his clients have been Dr. Pepper, Intel, Sun Microsytems, Toyota, Time, Newsweek, Esquire, Wired, GQ, Fast Company, Saveur, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Smart Money. His work has appeared in American Illustration, Print magazine, The Society of Illustrators, and The Society of Publication Designers.

Scott has illustrated award-winning picture books such as Doreen Cronin’s Bounce and Wiggle, (Simon & Schuster, 2005 and 2007). In Spring 2007, with the publication of Taking a Bath with the Dog and Other Things that Make Me Happy (Candlewick, 2007), Scott made his debut as author and artist. He is currently working on more books as author and artist, as well as Alison McGhee’s Song of Middle C, scheduled for publication by Candlewick Press.

Scott teaches at the Pratt Institute Graduate School. His favorite children's book is The Five Chinese Brothers.
