eorge Booth was born and raised in Missouri. His parents were both teachers. His mother taught all eight grades in a country school in Lonesome, MO. She taught odd number grades one year, even grades the next year, all the same kids. He has two brothers. After a few years with the Marines, he started cartooning while working at The Leatherneck as a staff cartoonist. He and his wife, Dione, live in Stony Brook, NY with four cats: Skitter and Puddin (a.k.a. the YaYa Sisters), Jasper Jones, and Tank. His daughter works with a large newspaper in New York City. He attended: Chicago Academy of Fine Arts; Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C.; School of Visual Arts in New York City; and Adelphi College on Long Island. George has also received an honorary doctorate of fine arts degree from Stony Brook State University of NY, and is an honorary member of Colgate University’s class of 1939. Booth’s drawings appear in The New Yorker and The New York Times. About Dogs, a collection of his cartoon work, is forthcoming from Abrams.

George also illustrates children’s books, including Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss (Random House), Nitpickin’ by Nancy Van Laan (Atheneum), Never Tease a Weasel by Jean Conder Soule (Random House), and Starlight Goes to Town by Harry Allard (FSG). He’s currently working on The Misadventures at the Harvey N. Trouble Elementary School by Kate McMullan (Feiwel & Friends).
