arry Bliss is a cartoonist and cover artist for The New Yorker magazine. Growing up in upstate New York amidst a family of successful painters and illustrators, Bliss went on to study painting at The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Illustration at The University of the Arts (BFA) and Syracuse University (MA).

Prior to his cartoons and covers for The New Yorker magazine, Bliss illustrated dozens of book covers for writers such as Lawrence Block, Dorothy Uhnak, Bob Dole, and Fiona Buckley.

Bliss's first children's book, A Fine, Fine School by Newbery-award winning author, Sharon Creech, was a New York Times bestseller. Bliss has illustrated many picture books since then including Which Would You Rather Be? by William Steig, Countdown To Kindergarten, (winner of the Minnesota Book Award), Mrs. Watson Wants Your Teeth, and A Very Brave Witch (a New York Times bestseller), all by Alison McGhee, as well as the #1 New York Times bestselling series by Doreen Cronin: Diary of a Worm, Diary of a Spider and the upcoming Diary of a Fly by Doreen Cronin.

While not on tour promoting Diary of a Fly, Harry can be found drawing his internationally syndicated, one-panel cartoon entitled BLISS. Harry N. Abrams will publish the first collection of these extremely witty cartoons in spring 2008, with an introduction by Christopher Guest. Harry is also working on illustrating Kate DiCamillo ’s picture book Louise: The Adventures of a Chicken, scheduled for publication in Fall 2008. In addition, he has won Nickelodeon Magazine’s 2007 Distinguished Achievement Award for children’s design and illustration.

Harry Bliss lives in South Burlington, Vermont.
